Programs
Sanctuary NYC, a division of St. Christopher's Interfaith Community/Dharma in Action, is a non-profit religious organization incorporated in New York City. Based in the East Village we run and support a wide variety of programs meant to nurture the human spirit.
We represent a 30 year continuum of commitment to spiritual consciousness and service to community. We are a small group of musicians/artists, entrepreneurs, world travelers & spiritual seekers.
Sanctuary NYC provides a wide range of services to benefit the community and enrich the lives of those around us. In keeping with our mission statement, we seek to serve others through the following programs:
-
Retreat For The Soul
Providing a "retreat for the soul" for travelers who want to have a more personal 'home away from home" experience while in NYC, and to have a deeper connection to their soul and the Supreme Consciousness of the Godhead. The principal of caring for travelers in this way is an integral part of our mission & vision of service through compassion. We also offer daily devotional services through our affiliate program the Bhakti Center as well as programs on site such as yoga & kirtan (devotional chants). http://bhakticenter.org
-
Food Distribution
Distribution of Pure Vegetarian Food sanctified by Mantra to the homeless of NYC. At Sanctuary NYC, we understand that anyone who eats this special food offered in devotion to the Supreme will have one's consciousness purified of past negative karma. We distribute weekly at lunchtime in Tompkins Square Park in the East Village. We support this program though our donations and volunteer efforts. Please check out some of the pics from this beautiful lunch program. (link for pics). We encourage all our guests to volunteer at least once during their stay, either Monday, Wednesday or Friday @ 11 a.m. http://interfaithcommunityservices.com

Distribution of Sacred Literature
Distribution of the Classics of Vedic Wisdom literature throughout the greater New York area. These include such renown texts as Bhagavad-Gita, popularly known as the book which inspired such wise visionaries as Gandhi, Emerson & Thoureau. Our mentor and spiritual preceptor His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, dedicated his life to this mission. He left India at the advanced age of 70 to travel west to teach & translate the ancient Vedic literatures for the re-spiritualization of human society. http://www.krsna.com & http://www.causelessmercy.com/v
